What Is Channeling? My Story and What I Have Learned Along the Way

Updated: Jul 10

I was eighteen years old the first time I encountered channeling, and I had absolutely no idea what I was sitting down into.

My mother had some interesting people over to the house. She was not someone who typically entertained this kind of crowd, so I was immediately curious. They were sitting in a circle, talking about things I had never heard before, and when they asked if I wanted to join and receive a message I said yes purely out of fascination. I had no framework for what was about to happen. I just knew I was intrigued.

The woman sitting next to me turned and looked at me, and something about her face had shifted. It was still her, but there was a different quality to her expression that I could not quite place. She then told me she was channeling Mary Magdalene and asked if she could share some information about my life.

I said yes.

What she told me stopped me in my tracks.

She said I would not stay with the man I was currently with. That the love of my life would come later and we would spend our lives together. That I would have digestive issues for many years and finding the right foods to eat would be important. And then she looked at me with an expression I will never forget, as though she had seen something difficult in my future that she was not willing to speak out loud. And that was it.

I dismissed all of it immediately.

I was a teenager who had recently given her life to Jesus. I had walked to the front of a church at fifteen years old and meant every word of it. And I knew enough about what I had been taught to believe that what happened in that circle was considered dark and dangerous.

But here is what stayed with me:

It did not feel dark.

It felt compassionate. It felt full of love. And in the back of my mind, very quietly, a voice said: what if she is right?

So I tucked it away and went on living my life.

Decades later I can tell you that every single thing she said came true. The man. The love of my life who came later. The digestive issues I have navigated for years. All of it. As for that look of sadness she could not put into words, I believe now that she was seeing the loss of my son Cameron. But only time will fully tell.

The Second Time Everything Changed

My second encounter with channeling came five days after Cameron passed away.

He had planned to come home that weekend for his twentieth birthday. Before he died he had told us all he wanted was to hang out at home with a few friends and family. So when we learned he was gone, we decided to give him exactly that anyway. We knew he would want us to celebrate his life, not collapse under the weight of losing it. So we invited our friends and family over to celebrate his life.

That day I had an NDE.

Cameron came to me from the other side. He showed me around what we call "heaven". And then Jesus and my guides began delivering messages about my purpose, about the gifts I had been given, and about how I would use them to help people. They told me that messages would come through me for others, that I would understand more as time went on, and that this was what I had been prepared for.

I came back from that experience completely undone in the most beautiful way. And then I went back to setting up for a party because people were coming to our house and there was no time to process what had just happened.

What struck me most about that night was, there were over 200 people that came to ur house that night, and as I greeted people who came through our door, I found myself delivering messages to them. Things I somehow knew they needed to hear in that moment. I thought it was Cameron, using me as a channel to reach the people he loved one last time.

I later learned from my guides that it was not Cameron delivering those messages. It was me.

I did not know what to do with that. So I did what I always do when something confuses me. I started researching.

Learning What Had Happened to Me

I read everything I could find. I took classes. And eventually I tried automatic writing, which is the practice of writing without consciously directing what comes through, whether by hand or by typing.

The first time I did it I was stunned.

What came through was so loving, so clear, so unlike the way I would ever speak to myself that I could not explain it away. So I kept going. I began connecting with Cameron this way. And eventually I was introduced to my guides.

When my guides encouraged me to try conscious channeling, everything deepened again.

I discovered that messages from the other side could come for me or for someone else, and either way they were healing in a way I had never experienced before.

That is the word that has always stayed with me. Healing.

Not strange. Not dark. Not dangerous... Healing.

So What Actually Is Channeling?

At its simplest, channeling is the ability to receive and deliver messages from the spiritual realm, whether from guides, angels, ascended masters, or loved ones who have passed. It is a bridge between the physical and the spiritual, and it is something human beings have been doing since the beginning of recorded history.

What it feels like varies from person to person. For some it comes with physical sensations like warmth, tingling, or a sense of floating. For others it is more subtle, a shift in awareness, a sense of a presence nearby, or images and impressions that arrive without being consciously constructed.

What remains consistent across all of it is this: the other side is pure love.

Whatever form the experience takes, what comes through it always carries that quality. It is the one constant I have never found an exception to.

There are different ways channeling can occur.

What I practice is conscious channeling, meaning I am aware and present throughout the experience and can stop at any time. I hear myself speaking as though from a slight distance, and I carry some memory of what came through afterward. Other channelers work in a deeper trance state, where awareness is limited and memory of the session is minimal.

All channeling is in its essence a form of mediumship, a bridge between the physical and the spiritual, whether the messages come from guides, angels, ascended masters, or loved ones who have passed. The form it takes may vary. The love it carries never does.

How Do You Know If It Is Real?

This is the question I get asked more than any other, and it is a fair one.

Authentic channeling, from a trustworthy source, will always feel like love. It will support you, encourage you, and honor your free will. It will never frighten you, blame you, or tell you what you must do. It will never create dependency or claim to be the only source of truth available to you.

Discernment is not optional in this work. I open every session in a protected, sacred space, calling in only the highest vibrational energies for your highest good. And I always encourage you to weigh what comes through against your own inner knowing.

Your soul is the authority.

What I bring through is offered in service of that, never in place of it.

If something does not resonate, you are not required to accept it. Ever.

Why I Do This

I did not choose this path. It found me in the most unexpected way, through grief, through an experience I could not have prepared for, and through the love of a son who apparently was not finished with me yet.

What I have discovered on the other side of all of it is that this gift was not given to me for my own benefit. It was given to me to pass on. To help people understand the bigger story of their lives. To remind them that the people they have lost are not gone. And to show them, one reading at a time, that love does not end when a body does.

That is what channeling is, at its heart. Not something strange or frightening.

A bridge. Built from love, for love, and in service of the truth that we are never as alone as we sometimes feel.

With love,

Camille
